I recently trimmed my sideburns too high so now it looks embarrassingly like a mullet. The real issue here is that if this happened two weeks ago it wouldn't have bothered me, but now that Miguel Torres has lost I look like a dick.

The MMA blogosphere is crowded. There are literally hundreds of blogs packed into an already niche market. The last thing the world needs is another one. If you want a forum you can tramp on down to the Underground. Bloodyelbow offers news with a readercentric spin. And if you like your MMA served with plenty of dick jokes you need look no further than Cagepotato. That's not even to mention Sherdog, Yahoo's steady coverage, and the countless other keyboard ramblers scattered across the interwebs. MMA has been crammed into the corner of society. Mainstream media have refused to cover it and its fans have honorably acted out in response. Without ESPN giving a damn, we created our own news source. New media, the voice of the common fan, whatever you want to call it.

But its packed like a public pool. And like a public pool its various patrons aren't to be scared away by a little bit of urine floating around in there. The last thing we need is another flabby, shirted male to crowd the waters.

So what do I have to offer? What's my motivation? Honestly, the answer is a little thin. I believe the truth to anything is in the details. Like anything else a fight isn't just a fight. Its made up of several tiny pieces crammed together. I do not have the greatest technical knowledge. I only have a background in collegiate and freestyle wrestling. I can't break down a fight into all its technical parts like Greg Jackson or Kenny Florian. Those aren't the kind of details I can offer.

The details I can offer are different. I can notice the way Jon Jones creative striking and youtube learning ways compare to the music of Animal Collective. I can notice the way that Miguel Torres's steely gaze and closed chin demeanor are more than anything in his game his most dangerous attribute. And I can notice that even though Bj's lizard licking and blood drinking ways are subconscious they are still forced acts of posturing. This is what I can offer. Its not the greatest thing ever, but hopefully its enough.
